Abstract

Research in wireless sensor networks (WSN) has long been focused on factors like large-scale integration, energy efficiency, and energy consumption. Researchers have great zeal toward Energy-efficient solutions, as it can help savethe energy of sensor-nodes. Energy saving is one of the most significant challenges that WSNs confront, and it is crucial in deciding the network's lifespan. Despite the fact that there are several WSN protocols, clustering-based hierarchical routing protocols are given greater prominence due to their improved scalability. Sensors, in particular, are battery-powered, which frequently limits available energy, which is unchangeable in most instances. Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) has been one of the most widely used energy-efficient sensor network protocols. In this work, a modified-leach protocol was designed and analysed. The performance of the proposed modified-leach protocol was evaluated using analytic research and simulations. The parameters used in the assessment procedure included energy consumption and network lifetime. The results of the simulations show that the proposed modified-Leach has demonstrated superior performance in comparison to other approaches like the TRADITIONAL LEACH technique and Distributed Energy Efficient Clustering (DEEC) technique. The results showed that the modified-LEACH approach recorded an increase of over 92% in the network lifetime when compared with thetraditional Leach approach and a 44% improvement over the DEEC protocol.
